Cuban Mahoganry & Leather Easy Chair

Denmark

1960

A very rare easy chair by Børge Christian Christoffersen for cabinetmaker N.C. Christoffersen. This example was one of two examples shown at the 1960 Copenhagen Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition and at one time was owned by N.C. Christoffersen's grandson. It is a very minimal design but with some nice subtle elements. The armrests widen near the back and are sculpted into a thin edge which break up the linear design. The legs are not quite square and taper slightly on both the front and the back. The frame is constructed of solid Cuban mahogany and the timbers were expertly chosen allowing for the gorgeous grain pattern to be showcased. The upholstery is red leather and is in good condition with some minor wear to the seat and backrest. This rare chair would fit well into any Danish furniture collection or modern environment.
