#128 Wenge Easy Chair Prototype

Denmark

1963

A rare version of Grete Jalk's classic #128 easy chair for France & Søn in solid Wenge and upholstered in new Kvadrat Divina wool. The wood variety and its four narrow back supports (in contrast to the standard wider two supports) as well as the foam cushions (versus spring cushions) lead us to believe this was a very early prototype or custom production. We are fortunate enough to have two of these pieces in our collection should you wish to acquire a matching set. Likely Jalk's most coveted piece, the #128 chair is one of the most popular designs to be manufactured in Denmark. Made for France & Søn but loosely based on a previous design for P. Jeppesen, it was widely exported and became a staple in the France & Søn line. The design features a simple yet very strong external frame of solid wenge which has dark yet warm hue to it. This classic design would fit well in virtually any modern surroundings.
