#128 Wenge Easy Chair, variant

Denmark

1963

A particularly rare version of Grete Jalk's classic #128 easy chair for France & Søn in solid Wenge and upholstered in new Kvadrat Divina Melange. The wood variety and its four narrow back supports (in contrast to the standard wider two supports) lead us to believe this is an early prototype or custom production. We are fortunate enough to have two of these pieces in our collection should you wish to acquire a matching set. Likely Jalk's most coveted piece, this chair is one of the most popular designs to be manufactured in Denmark. Made for France & Søn but loosely based on a previous design for P. Jeppesen, it was widely exported and became a staple in the France & Søn line. The design features a simple yet very strong external frame of solid Wenge which has a lovely warm hue to it depending on the light of its space. The chair is very comfortable due to the use of spring cushions on both the seat and backrest, here, covered in Kvadrat Divina Melange wool. This classic design would fit well in virtually any modern surroundings.
