DESCRIPTION:
A gorgeous Finn
Juhl dining chair for Baker Furniture.
This design was produced by Niels Vodder and Baker. When Juhl travelled to the U.S.A. in the autumn of 1950, he visited Baker Furniture at the request of Hollis S. Baker, the president of the company. Although sceptical at first, Juhl was impressed by the quality of Baker's furniture and construction methods which led to the production of some of his existing designs for the American market. This design was made for the secretariat's staff in the U.N. Trusteeship Council Chamber and was the FJ51 chair for Niels Vodder. Baker made the frame out of either American walnut or maple for the American market. This example is out of walnut which has a very luxurious feel to it. This design is a very sculptural piece with Juhl's hallmark "floating" seat and backrest. It has a very generous seating area which makes it very comfortable and useful for an occassional chair. We've recovered the piece in brand new high grade leather. This piece would be wonderful addition to any Juhl collection or modern dining environment.
